Shortbread and The Mads

Shortbread finger! I don’t mind; it’s delicious whatever the shape. We are, even as I type, watching another livestream from Dumb Industries of The Mads Are Back! This extremely fun show stars Frank Coniff and Trace Beaulieu, aka TV’s Frank and Dr. Clayton Forrester of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Every month they riff on an extremely bad movie. We’ve already seen Glen or Glenda?, Bride of the Monster, and The Devil Bat, along with a... Read more →

Shortbread and Snow

I was tempted to quote a certain Wham song, but I wasn’t sure if that would send someone to Whamhalla, so I’ll just say that today’s shortbread is another delicious heart! Well, a winter storm is approaching the area. It’s only supposed to graze our area, thankfully. The Pocono Mountains and Lehigh Valley are in for what the forecasters call “accumulating snow”. I remember one Christmas long, long ago when I was but a young... Read more →

Shortbread and Festivus

Another finger! If I can find a shortbread thumb, I’ll have a shortbread hand! My pal Andrea came up yesterday to visit and to attend a Festivus party given by our mutual friend Kate. It was great fun! We ate, drank, and aired our grievances. But alas, I cannot party like I used to, so I was not firing on all cylinders today. Eh, that’s okay; sometimes a gal needs to veg away the day. Read more →

Shortbread and Caramel

If you guessed that today’s treat is a Salted Caramel Square, you’re right! I love caramel. When I was in college, I realized that I like it better than chocolate! All of my friends at the time like chocolate better, so the fact that I like caramel better was quite heretical. Don’t get me wrong; I do love chocolate. Especially when it’s combined with caramel. Shortbread and Cats

Another finger! So, cats. Or rather, cat. Little Bits has developed an unfortunate habit of throwing up pretty much every day. She’s been to the vet, who couldn’t find any masses or blockages, and gave a shot of anti-nausea medication to try to break the cycle. It worked for a few days. But it didn’t last, so she’s going back tomorrow for x-rays and bloodwork. Little Bits HATES the vet. She hisses and growls and... Read more →

Shortbread and Pearl Harbor

Oh goody! A round shortbread thistle cookie! It is, of course, yummy. Today is the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. As soon as my Pop heard the news, he went to enlist. The Army wouldn’t take him, but the Navy did. He served as the head of the Navy Armed Guard on several merchant marine supply ships in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. My father-in-law was a student at The Citadel.... Read more →

Shortbread and a New Pen

Oh how nice! Another salted caramel shortbread square! I really like these - the wee pops of salty caramel are soooo good. Also nice? This new pen! It’s a Monteverde Regatta in Black Mother of Pearl. So pretty! This picture doesn't do it justice. I got this pen as part of the Mystery Box from Pen Boutique that I treated myself to as part of Fountain Pen Day last month. The cap is magnetic, on... Shortbread and… Shortbread

Today we have another shortbread… stick? Bar? Slab? Oh, right, finger. A shortbread finger. Well, I’ll just call it delicious! Speaking of shortbread, the Smitten Kitchen digest email today linked to a shortbread recipe that seems pretty easy. I see some baking in my future - well, as soon as I get some unsalted butter and powdered sugar that is. And haul the mixer out of the cupboard. Read more →

Shortbread and a Sunday Drive

Day 4 brings a delicious Salted Caramel Square - yum! We hung a wreath on the front door today and added our nutcracker to the shelf outside the door. All the apartments have these little shelves; it’s fun to see what people do with them. Some people leave them bare, while other folks go all out. We try to steer a middle course. Speaking of steering, we went for a nice drive after getting the... Read more →
