The Year in Pictures

January Happy 2019! February I think you mean "Weetacon," but... I went to Costume Karaoke as my favorite superhero, Notorious RBG. Stuck in the Green Bay airport with fellow Weetaconers. March Too many storms meant high water! April The scenery is lovely at the Waffle House in Savannah, Georgia. But the bride and groom are lovelier. I had dinner with the lovely and talented Linda in San Diego, California. Then we watched the sun set... Read more →

Sunday Stealing: Looking Back

1. First things first, did you have a good year? Yes, it was good, especially compared to 2018. 2. If you traveled, where did you go? Savannah, Georgia, for a friend's lovely wedding; San Diego, California, for a work conference (and dinner with a great friend); and Green Bay, Wisconsin, for our annual Weetacon pilgrimage. Oh, and Ocean City, Maryland - but that's a second home. 3. Which fashion trends did you love? Umm, clothes... Read more →

Saturday 9: Cold as Ice

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here. Here's the last Saturday 9 of 2019, because I'm kinda tired. 1) Look back on 2019 and share a happy moment. On May 16, Sonnyeboy graduated from the University of Maryland’s Francis King Carey School of Law. Since then, he took the bar exam, passed it, and was admitted to the Maryland bar. 2) As 2019 ends, are you making any New Year's resolutions for 2020? Maybe.... Read more →

What a wonderful whirlwind it was! Christmas, that is. Christmas Eve was a flurry of activity that ended with a grand party at my sister's house. It started early - I had to get some bloodwork done, get a couple of last minute gifts, and pick up our Christmas dinner from the fabulous Founding Farmer's. Then I had to rearrange the fridge and stow the dinner, throw stuff in a bag, and check on our... Read more →

Today is Christmas Eve, going on noon. I have already gotten some bloodwork done, picked up our Christmas dinner and stowed it in the fridge, and packed for our stay with SonnyBoy tonight. Now Joe and I are waiting for our Lyft to 30th Street Station. It’s peaceful. Here is one of my favorite photos, taken in Zurich in 2001. I happened to look up and saw this couple smooching. May your holidays be filled... Read more →

Our tree has been up for over a week now. It has built-in lights, which makes things easier, but it had only two ornaments: Ovi and a cute wooden one with Joe's name on it. We kept meaning to decorate it properly, but every night the recliner and chair captured us and the tree went untrimmed. Twinkly, but untrimmed. I got to thinking that it wouldn't be so bad to just have lights and Ovi... Read more →

I wrapped presents this afternoon. Joe conveniently took a walk, so I had time to figure out where I'd hidden the gifts, wrap them up, and sneak them under the tree. I hope my guys like them! I'm still missing one gift - I ordered it right after Thanksgiving, but it's still in transit from China. I hope it gets here by Christmas but I have my doubts. Eh. It's okay - the giftee will... Sketchbook Challenge

I've supported a few crowd-funded projects - a documentary about my favorite radio station, a hilarious game, a modern word processor for distraction-free writing - you know, the usual sorts of things. I was checking on one of them when I noticed a quirky project from artist Lora Zombie called the Sketchbook Challenge. Now, I am not an artist. Yes, I've done some pretty Zentangle tiles, but I am not an artist. This project is... Read more →

A Pretty Wedding

Here's my grandmother's marriage certificate. It's not as fancypants as her father's certificate, but Gramma's wedding was 27 years after his, so maybe things were more streamlined in the 20th century. Anyway, the Washington Star published the following description of the wedding. The suburban home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles F. Whitney of Woodside, Md., was the scene of a pretty wedding Wednesday evening, when their daughter, Miss Mabel Whitney, was married to Mr. Jarrett... Read more →
