I was tired today. It's because I did not sleep well last night. I did my nightly ritual, which generally ensures that I sleep pretty well, but alas! It did not work last night.
I woke up at 2:00 AM with terrible heartburn - luckily it was not accompanied by a vurp - and tried to swallow it away. That didn't work, so I heaved myself out of bed and chewed up two Tums. Then I added a pillow to elevate my head and prevent further agita.
I woke up next at 5:15 - 45 minutes before the alarm. Too early to get up; too late to really go back to sleep. Whenever I try to go back to sleep on these occasions, I end up opening my eyes every three minutes to see how much time I have left.
And that is, in fact, what I did. At 5:30 I just gave up. I sat up, did my neck exercises, and stumbled to the bathroom for my morning ritual. The details of that are TMI; trust me on this.
As is the case on many mornings, I had a headache from grinding my teeth. Yes, I wear a nightguard. My favorite ENT told me that the nightguard protects the teeth, but doesn't prevent the grinding headache. See, your face is like a bunch of tectonic plates, and grinding your teeth puts a lot of pressure on them. Thus, a headache. It wasn't terribly bad, but I took some Excedrin Migraine to knock it out. That shit works.
Finally, I had a few hot flashes throughout the night. I really can't call them night sweats, because I don't sweat that much. They are, however, uncomfortable. I generally wake up enough to toss the covers off.
I hit the wall at just about 3:00. I try to avoid coffee in the afternoon because Joe fixes us espresso as soon as I get home from work. So I had a nice big cup of water. It helped, oddly enough!
Anyway, I got home, had my espresso pick-me-up, cooked steak and cheesy potatoes for dinner, and now I feel a lot better.
Here's to a better night's sleep tonight!
