Ho Ho Holidailies
December 01, 2017
Well, November certainly disappeared quickly, which means that it's time for Holidailies once again!
You'd think that, having just completed NaNoWriMo for the first time in years, I'd never want to touch a keyboard again, but here I am. At least I don't have to write at 1,667 words every day to finish this particular internet challenge!
I wanted to complete another one of my circus novels that's been languishing on my hard drive for lo these many years. I wrote another 50,000+ words of that novel and still couldn't find a plot to drive the story to completion. The plot I thought I was working on was being completely lazy and decided not to participate. And I couldn't find a bad guy or a conflict or a crisis to save my ass. All of the characters got along nicely and everyone was doing their jobs and the circus was successful. So what I'm left with is a bunch of scenes, some of which are cute, some of which are too wordy (hadda get that word count done), and couple of which are pretty sexy without tipping over into porny (Ba-BOW!). At any rate, I'm going to let it rest for a few months and then see if a plot rears its ugly head. But, as Chris Baty, the founder of NaNoWriMo, says: "No plot? No problem!"
I still feel like I was successful - even without a plot - because I wrote stuff that wasn't about how to configure order management systems or how to pick, pack, and deliver e-commerce orders. And I got to be with the circus again, if only in my imagination.
Maybe I'll post a few excerpts here - or is that cheating on Holidailies? Nah, I don't think it's cheating. It's re-purposing!
