A Year Goes By Like Nothing (Part 2)

Okay! Here's Part 2 of the End of the Year meme, courtesy of the lovely and talented Bev of Funny the World. I was going to post this last night, but Typepad wasn't cooperating. 26. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Um, that would be... can you guess?... going to Ireland. 27. Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2016? No, but I drank more than I usually do, but even... Read more →

It's Been A Quiet Week

Because I used up my paid time off for my surgery, I had to work this week -- okay, only these last three days, but I am not used to this. Normally I take off this week. It's been very quiet; apparently everyone else in the company did not use up their PTO. Actually, our cube aisle was positively crowded -- three of us out of eight were in attendance. Of course, two of those... Read more →

A Year Goes By Like Nothing

I admit it; I stole this from the lovely and talented Bev Sykes of Funny the World. It's a two-part meme of questions reviewing the past year. So that's two more posts as we barrel to the end of this year's Holidailies! Was 2016 a good year for you? It had some highs, some lows. The high was our trip to Ireland; the low was my lymphoma diagnosis. 2. What was your favorite moment(s) of... Read more →

Super Mega!

My Pop always worked the daily crossword puzzle; he was good at it too. I've inherited his liking for crossword puzzles. Ever since we subscribed to the Sunday New York Times, I've been doing that puzzle. And yes, I cheat and google the clues I can't figure out. Sue me. I always try to do it without looking things up, but sometimes just looking up one answer will open the crossword floodgates. Anyway, on Sunday... Read more →

The Best Present of All

And so we had Christmas! Everything on the to-do list got done. Our train ride was smooth and relaxing -- orders of magnitude better than driving down I-95. Sonnyeboy picked us up and off we went to my sister's for the family Christmas Eve extravaganza. We had a great time, as usual! Afterward, we went back to Baltimore and spent the night with SonnyeBoy. The next morning, SonnyeBoy drove us back home, where we celebrated... Read more →

Christmas Eve To Do List

It's Christmas Eve! Yay! I have a list of things that I must do: Water the tree (a request from Joe). Wrap the presents and put them under the tree. Stuff the stockings. Bake these cookies. I have never baked them before, so keep you fingers crossed. Run three errands, to wit: fill up my gas tank, pick up a package of AAA batteries, buy a bottle of really good whiskey. Eat a little lunch.... Read more →

Fun with Fours

Well, I'm not feeling very inspired this evening, so here's a meme that's been going around on Facebook. By doing it here, I can add more explanations to my answers, so there's that! Four names I go by 1. Mom 2. Mary 3 Mary Ramon - I was mostly called this in grade school, to distinguish me from the eight other Marys in my Catholic school class. 4. Missus - Joe calls me this sometimes.... Read more →

Santa!

Did you hear that? We did, I swear; we heard a siren. Fire engine? Yes! Could it be? YES! It was Santa, making his yearly rounds through the local neighborhood. We stood on the balcony and waved like loons and I took these bad pictures. The light on the engine that was lighting up the Jolly Old Elf got in the way, but I did manage to capture at least a recognizable likeness. So yay!... Read more →

Christmas Past

My family has a history of giving gag gifts. Not always, but sometimes. In 1970, the Veg-O-Matic was being advertised constantly, and my Pop was always talking about it. "Well, look at that! It even slices tomatoes! And you can make french fries! My my my!" He in no way was doing this sincerely; he thought the gadget was most likely a piece of crap. So of course we had to get it for him.... Read more →

All Better

I finally feel like me again. It took pretty much a full month to recover from my surgery, but when I did, it happened almost overnight. I saw Doc H for my followup on November 29, at which point he said that all was well, I could drive, and I could start exercising again. I had already gone back to work, although I did take it rather easy by working at home. I went back... Read more →
