Swamped

I love swimming in the ocean; I really do! Actually, I guess it's not so much "swimming" as "splashing, jumping waves, and floating". I like to sit on the beach and get nice and hot, then stand at the edge of the water as the surf comes in and soaks my feet. I creep forward until the surf is high enough to soak my thighs, then I run into the sea. If I'm lucky I... Read more →

If You Fail to Plan

Oh, that old Weight Watchers mantra: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Bah. Sometimes when you fail to plan you have wonderful spontaneous adventures! It's all how you look at it. Except I did plan this week! Hell, I've been planning all year! When I sit down to write my goals for the week (which are supposed to align with my goals for the month, which are supposed to align with my... Read more →

What I'm Watching

Well, Game of Thrones is over. I really enjoyed this season a lot! The finale was especially riveting, what with the destruction of the High Sept, the crowning of Cersei, the new King in the North, and the start of the invasion of Westeros. But now that it's done, what am I watching? Every damn permutation of tiny house show -- Tiny House Nation, Tiny House Hunting, Tiny House Hunters, Tiny House Big Living... if... Read more →

Another Job Well Done!

I'm a big fan of R. Crumb's Mr. Natural. I have this comic taped to my refrigerator. I feel this way every time I tackle a job I need to do, kinda want to do, but don't really want to do. Kind of like exercising... But anyway! I've had "Reorganize the closet" on the list for awhile, and today was the day! Now, we got rid of a ton of stuff when we moved. I... Read more →

Saturday 9: Sara Smile

I've been battling a not-quite-a migraine headache today; therefore, I shall do this week's Saturday 9. The theme for today is Hall and Oates's Sara Smile. I must admit that I was never much of a Hall and Oates fan, but here we go anyway. Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here. 1) This was Hall & Oates' first #1 hit. Can you name another of their popular songs? Actually, no. Like I said,... Read more →

The Compass Works Nicely

I didn't wait very long to use my spiffy new compass with the graphite point. I started with three concentric circles, then off I went drawing stuff. I never know how these things are going to turn out. They take a while, because after I do one pattern, I sit and stare at it. Then I go do something else. Then I stare some more. Finally, I put my pen on the paper and something... Read more →

The Jet Black Ink Solution

If you've seen a couple of my recent Facebook posts, you know that I went on a quest for a compass -- not the "where's north" type of compass, but the "draw a circle" type of compass. The reason I wanted one is to make drawing concentric circles easier. Compasses are very good for that. You could even say that circle drawing the raison d'etre of the compass. Concentric circles make a very nice framework... Read more →

A Testimonial to Joel

It's getting late, but I couldn't let the day slip away without a post in honor of my Pop's 116th birthday. Happy birthday, Pop! I love this picture of him. It's his law school graduation picture; he received his LLB in 1935 from Columbus University, which later merged with Catholic University's law school to become Columbus School of Law. And he did it without earning a bachelor's degree first! He went to law school at... Read more →

And I Thought I Had Clutter

Last weekend Joe and I visited the Mercer Museum in Doylestown. It is amazing. The Side of the Mercer Museum It's a seven-story concrete building conceived and built by Henry Mercer -- the same man who built Fonthill Castle. He needed it to store the massive amount of stuff he collected. It has everything from an actual stagecoach to ivory hair combs. It's a vast journey through the everyday artifacts of America. Because we are... Read more →
