Have a Seat!

We've been wanting a new couch since we moved here. The old one was too big for the space, to butt sprung to get off of easily, and just too... much. So yesterday we went to Ikea, where we decided on the Ektorp loveseat. The slipcover (Vellinge beige) is a really nice chenille-ish fabric. Best of all, it was in stock! So we spoke to a very nice woman who helped us with the order.... Read more →

Something's Afoot

When I started walking walking walking walking, I noticed that I was having a little discomfort in my left foot; specifically, my index toe. You know, the piggy that stayed home. Every once in a while I'd have a flash of pain. Nothing horrible, just a little flash. I chalked it up to the fact that I was exercising and my toe wasn't used to that. I figured it would go away. Well, it didn't.... Read more →

Snowy Sunday Stealing

Time once again for Sunday Stealing! Do you like to see it snowing outside? Yes, as long as I'm inside! This is a timely question, given that we had a literal blizzard yesterday. Our area got just about two feet of snow. I went out in the middle of the afternoon and the snow was knee-deep, but I managed to slog though to the riverbank and grab this picture of the river. Schuylkill River during... Read more →

Will You Still Need Me, Will You Still Feed Me?

Yes, today I am 64! One year from Medicare! Two years from full retirement (like that'll happen)! Thank you, Dr. Martin Luther King, for having your holiday on my birthday so I didn't have to take a vacation day. It was just a lovely day, even though the Arctic Blast came through yesterday. Joe surprised me with a nice gift (two lovely tops) and spoiled me all day. I had Cap'n Crunch for breakfast! I... Read more →

Testing, Testing

As you probably know, I have Type 2 diabetes. It runs in the family -- my Pop had it, his father had it, and so on and so forth. So far, I have been able to control it with medications other than insulin. Lately I have been much better at that, because I have been going easier on the carbs and exercising regularly. What I have not been doing is testing my blood sugar, because... Read more →

An Exercise Update

So, remember this post? Yeah, I still hate exercise and would much rather sink into the magical recliner. However, I have not. Yay me! As long as my numbers remain good, I'll keep on truckin'. Now that it gets dark at an obscenely early hour, I go to the fitness center here at our apartment complex. It's a short walk through the garage and across the parking lot, so I cannot use the excuse that... Read more →

Saturday 9: Five O'Clock World

I started to do Sunday Stealing, but I didn't like the questions all that much, so I decided to do the Saturday 9 instead! The week's edition is based on the song Five O'Clock World. Think back to Friday. Did it fly by? Or did you find yourself checking the clock and wishing it was 5:00? It went by pretty quickly, actually. I'm in the midst of editing and updating a user guide and I... Read more →

An Aha! Moment

Once upon a time, a long time ago, my canvas boss boyfriend told me how the circus that we were on avoided their creditors and stayed in business. "Easy," he said. "They just changed the name of the show." Hold on to that thought. Joe and I saw The Big Short over the holidays. You'd think it would be pretty boring or confusing, given that the subject matter is the financial crisis of 2008. On... Read more →

A Mess of a Goal

I have had many hobbies over the past years... juggling, origami making, scrapbooking, blogging, ukelele playing, Zentangle-ing... and I have really enjoyed all of them. I get interested in something, try it out, and get quite invested in it. I pour my energy into it and sometimes I get pretty decent results. Not expert, not by a long shot, but decently decent. Then the interest fades and I leave that particular hobby behind. Well,... Read more →
