Fifty Bands of Mary

What with all the hoopla over the Fifty Shades of Grey nonsense, I decided to do a meme I first saw on Facebook, posted by the lovely and talented Sarah.

The deal is to list 50 bands that you have seen live, including the first you ever saw, should you be able to remember it.

I started off at a rather good clip, but then slowed way down. It seems I have seen many bands over and over and over, which kind of cut into the list. But I persevered, and here you go.

  1. Righteous Brothers (first)
  2. Ravi Shankar
  3. Pink Floyd
  4. The Lovin’ Spoonful
  5. Mothers of Invention
  6. The Who

  54.  Aerosmith
  55.  Sha Na Na
  56.  Wayne Baker Brooks

Oops, that's 56! Well, that's all right, I guess. A few notes:

  • I've probably seen Little Feat more than any other band, closely followed by Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McClinton, and the Neville Brothers.
  • I saw the Righteous Brothers and Ravi Shankar right after each other -- my first boyfriend took me on Friday night, then Saturday night. (I liked the Righteous Brothers better.)
  • Tears for Fears was a family affair; we saw them with SonnyeBoy when he was about eight. I also saw Aerosmith and Joan Armatrading with SonnyeBoy.
  • John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra was, without a doubt, the loudest concert I have ever attended. I was, ahem, in an altered state of consciousness and damn near saw God.
  • When I saw the Who, Led Zeppelin was the opening act.
