My First Diva Challenge

In my recent wanderings through the world of Zentangle®, I ran across a blog titled I Am The Diva. The Diva runs a weekly challenge in which folks create a Zentangle® that incorporates a specific tangle. This week, the Diva chose a tangle called Henna Drum, which looks kinda like a flowery vine.

So I thought I'd participate this week. Here's my shot at a Zentangle® featuring Henna Drum.

It's not nearly as fancy as some of the pieces that have been submitted, and it's not the best photo (what with the darkening along the top and right side), but hey -- you have to start somewhere!

I've been messing around with this latest hobby for a couple months now, and I decided that it's time to take a class. When I take up a pastime, I tend to try to learn it on my own. When I do this, I also tend to pick up bad habits and do things the hard way; for example, I "taught" myself how to crochet, and found out I was holding the hook ass backwards. By the time I discovered this, it was too late. The habit was ingrained and I found it very awkward to change.

So I signed up for a begnning class. I'll let you know how it goes. (If any of my DC-area pals want to join me, it's next Sunday, August 18, from noon to 3:00, at The Queen's Ink in Savage Mill, just north of Laurel.) Meanwhile, if you want to see the other Henna Drum submissions, go here and click the links at the bottom of the entry.

In other news, I had a calm, productive week at work. Then again, both the Underlord and the Overlord were on vacation.
