Urban Art Along The Red Line

I ride the Red Line to work every damn day, and when I'm not shooting birds at pigs or playing Scabble with my phone, I like to look at the urban art along the way. I've posted many of these to Instagram and Facebook, but I don't get a chance to talk about them much there. Some people think that graffiti is awful and ugly, a blight on the landscape, or malicious destruction of property.... Read more →

Copy Editors are STILL Important

Folks, I don't look for them. I merely document them when I see them. This typo is from an article on WaPo mobile. I think they might need to put a remedial proofreading class on the "shedule." The next one is from a performance review form. I won't name the company, because it's not "relavant." However, they clearly do not have any "matrics" for measuring spelling. Finally, we all know how evil those homonyms can... Read more →

Thoughts on a Rainy Day

It's raining today. Not a big thunderstorm or a brief shower, but a steady, gray rain -- sometimes light, sometimes heavier -- but always rain, soaking everything. It seems right, after yesterday's tragedy. It would be wrong, somehow, to have a bright, sunshiney day today. The police have defused the first tripwire in the shooter's booby trapped apartment. The living mourn their dead; the wounded begin to heal, if they can, both physically and psychically.... Read more →

He May Be 30, But...

When I was in my 30s, married, a mother, and a grown-ass woman, I had appendicitis. After spending the day in the ER, I was admitted to the hospital for surgery that same night. Joe, having spent the whole day with me, went home to take care of SonnyeBoy. He called my Mom to tell her what was going on. She and my Pop were in Ocean City at the time, but as soon as... A Memory on My Pop's Birthday

Today is my Pop's birthday. He would be 104 years old if he were here. Once when I was a kid, my Pop took us kids fishing down on the docks in Ocean City. Actually, now that I think about it, we might have rented a small motorboat and gone out fishing in the bay. My Uncle Aitchie came with us. As we were getting ready to go back to the cottage my family had... Read more →

A Major Award

Hey, I got a Sunshine Award -- twice! Once from the lovely and talented Golf Widow, and once from the lovely and talented Bev. There are apparently rules attached to this award, to wit: I must link to the person (people) who gave me the award. Done already! Whew. I must answer a series of questions, as follows. Favorite number: 9, because (to get all numerological on you) that's what my birthdate reduces to. It's... Read more →

Happy Fourth!

It's the last day of my vacation, so it's only appropriate that it should end with a bang! Heh. We will not be going to see the fireworks tonight; many of the local shows have been canceled because of heat and/or storm damage. The big DC fireworks show is on, but we are not crazy and will not be going downtown to see it. It'll be on TV; that's fine for me! When I was... Read more →

What I Did On My Summer Vacation

1. Crossed a bridge. 2. Saw beautiful sunsets. 3. Finally took a picture of the Fenwick Island Lighthouse. 4. Loved up on SonnyeBoy. 5. Ate at restaurants with great views and good food. 6. Sat on the beach and watched teenaged boys show off their boogie boarding skills. 7. Walked on the Boardwalk. 8. Rode the big ferris wheel. 9. Did not ride the Slingshot, the Tidal Wave coaster, or the Barf-O-Matic. 10. Observed local... Read more →
