Thank You for Your Service

This photo is a snippet from my Pop's application to join the Navy after Pearl Harbor. He didn't have to join; he was already 35, married with two kids, and a good career.

In case you can't read it, question 8 asks:

State in full your reason for making application at this particular time (include reason for choice of the Navy in preference to other services).

And my Pop's answer:

Consider present status not essential to war effort - have no particular preference - want to enlist where I will be able to do most good.
