Halloween Meme

The lovely and talented Bev did this meme today, and I thought, "How appropriate! I must appropriate this!" And so I have. Happy Halloween! What was the scariest movie you have ever seen? Curse of the Demon, with Dana Andrews. Yes, there's a monster, but you only see it twice, at the beginning and at the very end. What is your favorite written work of horror fiction? Casting the Runes, by M.R. James -- it... Read more →

Bring It On, Winter

Today was the first really chilly day of the fall season. The weather prognosticators are calling for snow, sleet, and rain late tonight and all day tomorrow. And what do I have to say to this gloomy, nasty forecast. I say this: Bring. It. On. I am not afraid of you anymore, Winter. Let the temperature dip into single digits. Let the wind howl and the snow fly. Another Snowmageddon? Pish tosh, I say. Why... Read more →

Pull Up Your Goddamn Pants: Undefeated Edition

In honor of my Washington Capitals beating the Detroit Red Wings to remain undefeated, I present a trio of saggy pantsed Caps fans. None of these are particularly horrendous, given a few that I've posted already, but they were saggy enough for me to take a picture. First, this fellow. I had to act fast as we were getting on the escalator. And, the sag-sation was worse than this shot shows -- shooting down does... Read more →

Busiest Weekend Ever

I have been tossed about by a veritable social whirlwind the last few days. Where to begin? How about Saturday? Joe and I picked up the lovely and talented Deb Siobhan and tootled off down to the Renaissance Festival. We saw many wonderful sights -- including the shows -- while we were there, including this satyr-ical fellow that we spotted while we waited in the medieval ATM line. We decided that he was not an... Weekend In The Mountains

For SonnyeBoy's big three-oh birthday weekend, we headed west to visit with Joe's sister's family. SonnyeBoy came up on Friday evening, and we jumped in the car early Saturday and lit out for the mountains. Sunshine and Chum live in the woods, on 100 acres near Cumberland, Maryland. It's my second favorite place in the world, right behind Ocean City. Once we got there, the rest of the crew was not far behind: Joe's brother... Read more →

Another Fine Mess I've Gotten Myself Into

Some odd form of madness took hold of me this morning. The Big Boss sent one of his inspirational emails about how public speaking skills are very valuable and in fact required for doing good marketing, and listed some Toastmasters Tips for good speakers. Then he closed the email by stating that we would all have "opportunities" to practice said skills. And right after I read that, some synapse in my brain sparked and fried... Read more →

Kindergarten Nun

Okay! I found it! Here is the picture of my kindergarten graduation class. And yep, that's me in the nun's habit, sitting across from the mini-monsignor. Real Monsignor Kennedy is that big priest in the back. Here's a closer view of me. Now that's a habit! It was accurate in every detail, from the starched wimple and bib to the big old crucifix dangling down my midsection. I don't remember much about that day, except... Read more →
