Thirty Days of Truth 5

Day 5: Something You Hope to Do in Your Life Oh, there are so many things! Fly to the moon on gossamer wings... Okay, here are ten things I would like to do in my life, in no particular order: Hold a grandchild or two (no pressure, SonnyeBoy, take your time). Spend Christmas at the Awahnee Hotel in Yosemite. See the Capitals raise the Stanley Cup. Buy the world a Coke. Live at the beach.... Read more →

Thirty Days of Truth 4

Day 4: Something You Have to Forgive Someone For I forgive you, my best friend from forever ago. You dumped me as a friend, without a word. There was a good reason for the dumping but if you had told me what I'd done, I'd have crawled on my belly to make it up to you. I had to find out about it from our mutual friends. I had thought we were as close as... Read more →

Thirty Days of Truth 3

Day 3 of the Thirty Days of Truth: Something You Have to Forgive Yourself For. My Pop died in 1991. My Mom died last January. I have to forgive myself for not being with them when they died. Pop died sometime in the night, so who could expect anyone to be there? Still, I hadn't visited him in the nursing home for a week or maybe more. Alone in a nursing home in the middle... Thirty Days of Truth 2

Day 2 of the Thirty Days of Truth is Something You Love about Yourself. You know what? I'm a damn good speaker. I love that I can take a topic, do some research, write a speech or presentation, and then stand up in front of a crowd and deliver. Not to brag or anything, but I once got a standing ovation for a talk I gave called Seven Lessons from the Circus. Maybe it's the... Read more →

Thirty Days of Truth

The lovely and talented Sarah is doing a meme called Thirty Days of Truth. Truth be told, I have not been very inspired to write here very often, but this exercise appeals to me. I'm not saying I'll do all the topics in 30 consecutive days, but I will do 'em all. Eventually. Anyway, let's get started with Day 01: Something I Hate About Myself I could take the easy route here and say I... Read more →

This And That

The little twin girls next door are celebrating their third birthday, so there is quite a lot of excited squealing happening. I'm fine with it; these are little miracle girls. They were born very prematurely, spent their first four months of life in the NICU, and came home to live hooked up to apnea detectors. It's good to see them be lively and loud. So happy birthday to them! It's a glorious fall day here.... Read more →

Ten Things That Make For A Wonderful Weekend

There's so much about this weekend that was wonderful, I'll simply list them out. 1. The weather has been perfect. Cool nights, warm days, cloudless skies of brilliant blue -- I could not have ordered better. 2. Joe had three days off in a row -- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's really a treat to have him with me all weekend. 3. I slept way late Saturday morning, quite deliberately. I finally woke to the... Read more →

Good Manners

Several months ago I went to my grandniece Maggie's First Holy Communion celebration. I gave her a pretty little pendant on a chain, ate good food, and visited with the extended family -- all in all, a lovely time! Just the other day I got an envelope in the mail. On the back, in loopy second-grade handwriting, was the label "Ant Mary". There was also a note from her mom; evidently my niece found the... Read more →
