The Big Three-Oh
June 21, 2010
If you follow me on Facebook, you know that Joe and I went to Ocean City this weekend for our anniversary -- our 30th anniversary!
No spectacular trip, no long cruise, no indulgent party -- just a weekend trip to the town where we spent our honeymoon 30 years ago tonight.
It was perfect.
We spent time alone in the family house, just as we spent time alone in my parents' condo -- only this time we slept in a king-sized bed instead of a double pull-out sofa. We ate dinner at a great Chinese restaurant, just as we ate dinner at a great Mexican restaurant -- only this time our wonderful SonnyeBoy treated us as an anniversary present. We sat on the beach, just as we did that time and many times since.
How in the world did we make it thirty years? It seems like I blinked and here we are. As my Pop said on the occasion of my parents' golden anniversary, "it feels like I was born married."
You know what? We met in April 1979, started dating in August, moved in together in September, got engaged in December, and married in June. Hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
It still does.
