A Happy Collision of Worlds

Didja miss me?

I was in Dallas all week, at my yearly STC conference. I learned about DITA, content management, eLearning project management, SEO, and a host of other things of interest to folks like me.

I also connected with a whole bunch of lovely people, both mentors, friends, and both. It's one of the major reasons why I go each year -- to see my STC friends, exchange ideas, catch up on our lives. It's a whole other family, one that's built around a shared passion for clear communication.

This year, though, I got an extra special bonus, because the lovely and talented SuzannaDanna, one of my internet tribe, lives in Dallas. A happy collision of worlds, indeed! The texts flew, she picked me up Wednesday evening, and off went to a fabulous little bistro called Soho Food and Jazz.

I mean, how can you not go to a joint named Soho Food and Jazz. Food! Jazz! Food and jazz! It's a win-win!

Well, okay, we didn't get there on a jazz night; we got there on a middling guitar player night. But! We sat on the patio, in the middle of a delightful breeze, so still -- win!

A refreshing mojito started us off. We opted to share several small plates from the happy hour tapas menu, and every single one of them was excellent. We ate most of them before I remembered to snap pictures of the culinary goodness. Fear not, I did capture a few of them.

Here is a shot featuring the best ahi tuna and smoked salmon that I have ever eaten. A  brush of wasabi provided a kick, and the rice was perfectly cooked, and oo oo! Avocado! The pasta dish in the background was lovely, cheesy and just the right amount of chewy; plus, the wee pastas slid over the fork tine providing us with hours of creative play. The shrimp was the least exciting dish, but it was still very very good.

But the piece de resistance was this meat dish, cooked to medium rare perfection, seasoned to a turn. It was melt in your mouth good, so good that we had to name it accordingly.

Behold. The Lamb of God.
