Rule One: Don't Forget to Breathe
October 10, 2006
I feel like I've been pulled in a million different directions today.
Work directions -- Too much to do and yet I can't seem to focus in on any of it. Email! Edit! Sign this card! Schedule this class! Con call!
Home directions -- Decide on a real-estate agent! Pay more bills! Give more stuff away! Inch of dust on the dresser! Gotta go to Target! No, Chicos! No, Target, dammit!
Other directions -- Pick up Mom's prescription! Get a tetanus shot! Refill my own prescriptions! Eat lunch, not that! No, no more candy corn! Yes, more candy corn!
What the hell is wrong with PowerPoint? I can't get the damn slide number to appear, the template isn't working, the footer keeps changing itself, the master slide is fucked up, the help doesn't, What? Livemeeting doesn't support animations? Oh, wait, it does! What do you mean, that isn't true? Of course it's true! I wouldn't write it if weren't true! My head is going to explode!!!
I need to breathe.
In, out.
All falls away; there is only breath.
In, out.
Breath informs everything.
In, out.
Bring the mind back to neutral. Listen to the sounds around you.
In, out.
Bring the mind back to neutral. Become calm.
In, out.
The day is almost over. I will go to yoga class; I will stretch and bend.
And breathe.
Whew.
