Last Sunday Joe and I went out to lunch.
In Leesburg, Virginia. It's a goodly distance away -- almost 41 miles -- but it's a very scenic route. In fact, the route involves crossing the Potomac River at White's Ferry. The ferryboat itself is named the General Jubal Early, after the Confederate general.
The main office and general store is on the Maryland side of the river. It includes a big picnic area and a little swimming area. This part of the river is generally slow, shallow, and calm. It doesn't take long to cross, so unless there are a lot of folks in line, the wait is not very long.
It's a quick but delightful crossing, and then a short drive into Leesburg, where we dined at Tuscarora Mill. The restaurant is in a converted mill, of course. This is only one of the rooms, a bright, airy dining room on the second level. Joe chose the restaurant on the strength of its beer menu (extensive). I, however, had a mango mojito (exquisite!).
The food was lovely, the day was too, and we thoroughly enjoyed our little trek into the country. (More pictures here.)
