1. Mom and I attended the Old Folks' Boogie Cookout at the assisted living complex. Mom ate too many onions, dissed the potato salad, and had a great time.
2. Joe and I saw Get Smart. Funny! I am very easy to please, particularly if Dwayne Johnson is involved.
3. It's official: I love modern pharmacology.
4. I did not sleep very well the whole entire weekend, largely due to the heat and humidity. I woke up way too hot early early early on Saturday morning, like 3:00 am early, so I went downstairs where it's at least 5 degrees cooler and flopped on the couch. I turned on TCM, which was showing "Yankee Doodle Dandy," the great musical about George M. Cohan starring James Cagney. Boy oh boy, could Jimmy cut a rug! I dozed off toward the end of it and woke up for about three minutes in the middle of "On The Town." It took me a second to recognize Gene Kelly in his sailor suit, but almost as soon as I did I dozed off again, only to wake up for the end of the extremely scary and disturbing Spencer Tracy version of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." I kept on watching as the next movie started -- it was a real tear jerker called "On Borrowed Time" about an old man (played by Lionel Barrymore) who traps Death up an apple tree. Weird.
5. Got a whole packet of stuff from the co-op association at Mom's house about how to go about selling the joint. The first piece of paperwork is a "Notice of Intent to Sell Shares." A sticky note attached said that both Mom and my father must sign it. Thing is, Pop's been dead for 17 years, so we have to dig up a death certificate. Nothing's ever easy.
6. We got a rebate check from Verizon Wireless. Fifty bucks!
7. After I batted my eyelashes and said "pretty, pretty please," Joe made blueberry pancakes for dinner Saturday night. So, so yummy. Joe makes the Perfect Pancake.
8. We also saw Mongol. Impressive epic, beautifully shot! I'm constantly amazed at how white everybody's teeth were back in the 12th century. Heh.
9. TNT had a Law and Order marathon, part of which included a Law and Order movie, sort of, starring Chris Noth. Yes! Not only that, they had a Law and Order SVU marathon too.
10. I had a craving for a Coke Slurpee, so I stopped at a local 7-11. I hadn't been to this particular 7-11 in years, and when I walked in I remembered why. The parking sucked, the store was dirty, and they were out of Coke Slurpees. Then, inspiration! I bought a root beer, went home, and fixed myself an extremely delicious root beer float. An excellent solution, if I do say so myself.
